2020 began with the Club staff providing youth development after-school programs for upwards of 100 kids daily, swiftly pivoting to taking the Club to the homes of our Club members. Safer-at-home, Club staff tracked family wellness, provided summer activity kits, hosted virtual Friday Family Game Nights, and developed and hosted daily interactive sessions using the ZOOM platform. eClub@home kept Club members connected (lessoning feelings of isolation) through creative learning activities. To expand access to virtual opportunities, Club staff were part of the PCs for Kids team, distributing 400 computers at low or no cost to local students in-need.
This Fall, following COVID-19 safety best practices, the Club resumed in-person youth leadership programs for the kids we could help the most, together with continuing virtual programs for kids whose families selected safer-at-home as their preference.
The impact of the Club in the lives of La Plata County youth and their families has been and continues to be essential to COVID-19 response and recovery. In addition to special provisions through the 2020 CARES ACT Donor benefits, donations to the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County may also be eligible for the Colorado Child Care Contribution Tax Credit.
